FatesAndFuries

Hello fellow readers!  The Daly Planet Book Club is back with our first book of 2016.  This time around we will be reading Fates and Furies by Lauren Groff. Here’s the synopsis:

Every story has two sides. Every relationship has two perspectives. And sometimes, it turns out, the key to a great marriage is not its truths but its secrets. At the core of this rich, expansive, layered novel, Lauren Groff presents the story of one such marriage over the course of twenty-four years.

At age twenty-two, Lotto and Mathilde are tall, glamorous, madly in love, and destined for greatness. A decade later, their marriage is still the envy of their friends, but with an electric thrill we understand that things are even more complicated and remarkable than they have seemed. With stunning revelations and multiple threads, and in prose that is vibrantly alive and original, Groff delivers a deeply satisfying novel about love, art, creativity, and power that is unlike anything that has come before it.

Sounds pretty interesting, right? Let’s find out! Fates and Furies won a whole bunch of awards last year including Amazon’s best book of 2015, so hopefully we’ve picked a good one. As usual, we’re going to divide the book into two sections, go off and read it, and meet twice to record podcasts of each section. During these podcasts we’ll discuss our thoughts as well as the discussion questions and topics that you guys submit. Fates and Furies is conveniently divided into two sections: Fates and Furies (clever), so we’re going to break it up along that same line.

The reading schedule is as follows:

  • 1/25/16 (Today) – Get the book, start reading!
  • 2/8/16  – Section 1: Fates discussion questions/tops due
  • 2/12/16 – Podcast over section 1 available
  • 2/22/16 – Section 2: Furies discussion questions/topics due
  • 2/26/16 – Podcast over section 2 available

Remember, you can submit your discussion questions/topics to us via e-mail at dalyplanetfilms@gmail.com or via twitter @dalyplanetfilms (use the hashtag #DPBC). Your participation is important to this whole process, so if you’re reading along at home, don’t be afraid to send us some questions, comments, or thoughts about the book!
