Hey friends! Apologies again for having to cancel last month’s book club on Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell. We are still hoping to reschedule sometime soon as soon as we know Matt is well enough to read slides for 2+. We’ll let you know as soon as we have a date!

In the meantime, time rolls on and on, and we’ve got a new book for you to read! This month was our semi-annual “we-pick-em” where we temporarily take power away from our Patrons and allow one or both of us the power to choose the book. This time it was Matt’s turn and he selected…

The Likeness by Tana French. This is technically a sequel to Into the Woods, French’s first novel, but I don’t think the book requires knowledge of that story to work. All of French’s Dublin Murder Squad books basically operate as independent reads. In fact, we’ve already covered one of them on our book club before!

Tana French is one of Scott’s favorite mystery writers working today and she’s got a new book coming out in just a few days, so this is a perfect time for all of you to fall in love with her. Give the book a try and let us know what you think!

Here’s the summary:

In the “compellingˮ (The Boston Globe) and “pitch perfectˮ (Entertainment Weekly) follow-up to Tana French’s runaway bestseller In the Woods, itʼs six months later and Cassie Maddox has transferred out of the Dublin Murder Squad with no plans to go back—until an urgent telephone call summons her to a grisly crime scene. The victim looks exactly like Cassie and carries ID identifying herself as Alexandra Madison, an alias Cassie once used as an undercover cop. Cassie must discover not only who killed this girl, but, more important, who was this girl?

The live-streamed discussion of The Likeness will occur on Friday, October 30th at 9:30 PM Central Time over on our YouTube page. Get the book and get reading! If you’re going to purchase a physical copy through Amazon, we would appreciate it if you do so through our Amazon Affiliate link. The book will cost exactly the same to you, but it will help support Doof! Media.
